2010 Queen Of The South Stakes Nominations

April 13th, 2010

The Adelaide Racing Carnival is now in full swing in South Australia, and this Saturday the Morphettville Racecourse will be host to one its more prolific races – the $150,000 Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m).

The 2010 Queen Of The South Stakes has seen 13 fillies and mares nominated for the gallop, all at least three-years-old and looking to take home a share in the $150,000 prize purse.

Peter Moody’s Returntosender is a strong contender for Saturday’s race if she starts.

Peter Moody’s Returntosender is a strong contender for Saturday’s race if she starts, recently winning the Mares Handicap at Caulfield over 1,400 metres, beating fellow 2010 Queen Of The South Stakes nominee Marchelle Belle.

Coming into the race with a convincing recent win is the locally based Majestic Music. The filly won the Group 2 Yallambee Classic (1200m), defeating a strong field, however has struggled in her two last races against classy starters.

A strong contender for the race is the John Moloney-trained Amberino. The mare recently finished second in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield.

Also a strong competitor is the five-year-old mare Zarita who is coming into the 2010 Queen Of The South Stakes winner of the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m).

Taking place on Saturday alongside the Group 2 race will be the Group 3 DC McKay Stakes (1100m).
