April 16th, 2010

The illustrious $150,000 Group 2 Queen of the South Stakes (1600m) is due to jump just after 3.30pm this Saturday, as it headlines the fantastic day of racing at Adelaide’s Morphettville Racecourse.

Forming part of the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival, the 2010 Queen of the South Stakes will see ten fillies and mares at least three years of age to compete the 1,600 metre distance for a share in the $150,000 purse.

Going into the Queen of the South Stakes as favourite to cross the line first is Zarita at $2.

Going into the Queen of the South Stakes as favourite to cross the line first is Zarita at $2.

The last time the mare competed over the 1,600 metre distance was when she won the Group 2 Sunline Stakes, and will look to return to that dominating form.

Majestic Music and Amberino are the closest in the odds to the mare at $6 and $7 respectively.

While claiming the Group 2 Yallambee Classic (1200m), Majestic Music has finished in the tail end of the results table of her last two starts so could be a risky wager, in contrast barrier two –starter Amberino most recently finished second in the Victorian Handicap (1400m) and looks more lucrative.

Starting from barrier three, locally-based Symphony Miss is another contender with a lucrative payout at $14.

Rounding out the odds is inside barrier-starter Fomalite at $51, and while an uphill challenge for the filly, would provide a substantial payout for any punter looking to place a spare dollar this weekend.

Also taking place at the Morphettville Racecourse will be the $100,000 Group 3 D C McKay Stakes (1100m).
