Upset Win for So Pristine in Queen Of The South Stakes 2012

April 28th, 2012

Six-year-old mare So Pristine has produced an upset to claim her first Group level victory ahead of Little House and Blue Ribbon in the Group 2 2012 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m).

A beneficiary of the Peter MoodyLuke Nolen combination, jockey Nolen was happy to let the Zabeel mare sit mid-field with cover before showing his experience to find her an opening at the straight.

From there she was able to show good speed to hold off favourite Little House who finished strongly and looks to be a good prospect to step up in distance in the future.

Moody had previously tried to train So Pristine for longer distances but now believes the today’s 1600 metre distance is perfect for her.

“She’s raced without luck. I’ve made the mistake of trying to train her to stick on a bit. I think the mile is as far as she wants,” he said.

“I was confident. Watching the way she travelled, she was just going to need that bit of luck to get a run in the straight.”

Nolen was happy to score victory and suggested today’s female only race presented the right conditions for So Pristine.

“These mares are sometimes just better suited to mares races, she’s been running well,” Nolen said.

Her maiden Group victory extends her career record to seven wins from 29 starts.
